GRID Alternatives Names Atomic Public Relations Agency of Record

San Francisco, CA - March 24, 2009 - Atomic Public Relations (www.atomicpr.com), the leading source for alternative PR energy, today announced it has been selected as agency of record for GRID Alternatives, an Oakland-based nonprofit organization that brings solar training, equipment and resources to low income families. Atomic will lead and execute a strategic communications program for GRID Alternatives that encompasses brand positioning and messaging, print, broadcast, and online media relations. In addition, Atomic will help to support GRID's fundraising through events and social media.

Since 2001, GRID Alternatives has been working to bring the power of solar electricity and energy efficiency to low-income homeowners, and to provide community members with training and hands-on experience with renewable energy technologies. Piloted in the San Francisco Bay Area in 2004, GRID Alternatives' flagship Solar Affordable Housing Program trains and leads teams of community volunteers, corporate work-teams and low-income job trainees to install solar electric systems for low-income homeowners in Northern and Southern California. To date, GRID Alternatives has trained more than 2,000 volunteers to install solar PV systems for low-income families throughout Northern and Southern California. These systems reduce each family's electric bill by 75 percent, translating to more than $3.39 million worth of energy cost savings over the systems' projected life span.

"We were very impressed with Atomic's passion and expertise in both the traditional and alternative energy industries, not to mention the green sector as a whole," said Erica Mackie, P.E., Executive Director and Co-Founder of GRID Alternatives. "With the rapid growth of our program throughout the state of California and the increasing level of interest in our services, we needed an agency that would be able to hit the ground running. Atomic PR brings a fresh and innovative approach to public relations and we look forward to working with them to elevate our profile within our industry and beyond."

"We believe wholeheartedly in GRID Alternatives' mission and approach," said Rebecca West, Co-founder and senior vice president of Atomic PR. "We are looking forward to increasing awareness about the great work GRID does in low income communities, and educating consumers about the many benefits of solar energy."

Several high profile organizations, ranging from Echelon to Green Builders, have chosen Atomic PR for its background in green technology, renewable energy and sustainable living. Atomic has also represented several other notable non-profits, including Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Zeum, and the Asian Art Museum. For more information, please visit www.atomicpr.com.
